for anybody out there who likes to go off road a bit and knows the Kingston area.....

my ultimate goal is to hike into the Las Animas Creek area a few miles above the Forest boundary to the site of a famous Apache/US Army battle....I know there is some private land in the immediate area.....looks like coming in from the Turner ranch lands is too long and probably restricted to some extent.....another possibility is hike/backpack down from McKnight Mountain, which I've done before to only near the site, but I'm not relishing the 3000' hike back uphill......the final option is come in on FR 157 from near Kingston and north as far as possible to the 307 TH and then hike over to Las Animas from Cave Creek.....

online sources say this road was much-improved during the 2013 Silver Fire and the 307 trail has been worked on, too.....wondering if anybody has driven the 157 road to or past the Bald Mt area and how rough it is.....I have a stock FJ Cruiser and experience with moderately rough roads, but I definitely don't want to beat it up or have to walk out for help!....is it possible to get to the 307 TH or absolutely miserable doing it?.....I do know we all have different tolerance levels for bumpy roads!.....or should I just go in as far as I'm comfortable??!!

thanks for any helpful comments.....

If this is on the National Forest, call them.
