During the first week in October I understand there is an Enchilada Fiesta in New Mexico. I was planning on attending and maybe entering it. Was wondering if anyone on this board has attended or entered or knows of any other Enchilada Cook off locally? Or just plain old BBQ Contests in New Mexico?

Would appreciate your feed back and I would also be willing to share some recipes as well!

Thanks!

It can't be the ABQ area - the beginning of October is the Balloon Fiesta. Doubt there would be another major event going on at the same time, unless it was something connected with the balloon fiesta.

This event is held in Las Cruces.....they create a HUGE enchilada with all of the trimmings. I've never been, but I've heard of it before.

The Whole Enchilada is in Las Cruces. It has been featured on Food Network before. Basically it is a big party...parade, vendors, arts, bands...

Robert Estrada, owner of Roberto's, makes the big Enchilada on Sunday.

They have a beer tent and drinking is contained in that area. The most notable musician to play the Fiesta has been Selena.

This year the event is scheduled for September 26th, 27th & 28th

It is safe- family event. The Las Cruces PD is out in force and they do not tolerate any trouble makers.

Here are some links for ya...

I just missed it last year when I was house-hunting, but, now that I live here, I am counting the days

Basically, the "carnies" from the Hatch Chile Festival make a return appearance for this annual event. I think the same carnival company is transferred down to Main Street. It felt like I was in the same place, minus the landscape. That is to say, every ride and food stand was the same.
