Not all of Southern NM is hot desert ....there is the huge Gila Wilderness area in the SW ...and also Sacramento and Capitan Mtns in south central NM ..you'd be surprised just how "green" these area are ...and cool too
Most of NM is a dry heat and yes, even dry is hot when temps reach 100 degrees, but if you re-locate anywhere from about 100 miles south of Alb to the furthest north part of the state the heat is not bad. We lived 13 years in Dallas, used to go to swim meets (watching our granddaughter compete) in Tyler and I can assure you, there is no heat in NM that can compare with Texas.
There are many advantages to NM, property is not expensive unless you get up toward Sante Fe, taxes are so so, lower than many places we have lived and the people, for the most part are friendly. Like anywhere there are drawbacks, but the beauty of the state makes lots of the problems seem minor.
but for some reason stripping down to your birthday suit is unacceptable.
Give me cold any day!
