Hello,, can any one explain the elk and mule deer resident tag situation for New Mexico residents,,, from what I understand it appears that residents are required to draw an elk tag like a non-resident,,, how bout the cost for resident,,, was not able to find this out and how bout the same for mule deer???

Yep.. need to get a copy of the proclamation for NM re hunting.
Application needs to be in by the 7th or so of April.
NO overthe counter elk or deer tags. I have tried for 5 years and not drawn for elk.
Got a whitetail tag last year, but tough hunt and 0 success.

Get the regs and start reading..

I have not drawn an elk tag in years I have been able to get a Mulie tag every year since the started the draw. And I have drawn one speed goat tag in 20 years of trying.

The anti's have been getting a bunch of the tags the past few years. The G&F hope to remedy some of that by making all fees due at the time you put in your application by 2010. I hope that helps.


Resident elk tags are 92.00 for quality/high demand tags. 62.00 for cow permits. 39.00 for deer.
