Thanks, Greg.

Here's a link to road description. From ABQ / Rio Rancho, take 550 to 4,
then a little past the Jemez Visitor Center, 485 comes in from the left.
It is a small, secondary road and has a "One Lane Bridge" warning sign.

I didn't go past the tunnels, but at least up to that point the road was in
good shape but very narrow.

It's an old lumber trail. The concrete foundation you see on the left as you get on route 485 was from the sawmill, I have never made the whole loop. 485 and 376 are dirt roads and use to get too rough for my bike.

Of course the route 4 is a good ride with places to eat, good asphalt all the way up.

Rich,

When you say bike, you mean motorized, right? You could get up there with a mountain bike?

Sorry, Motorcycle. 1400cc Suzuki Intruder at about 475 lbs. Does not do well off road.

Mountain bike would be great if you can handle the distance, I'm probably a little bit older than you. Or these small motorized dirt motorcycles could do it. I'm told regular suv's can do it. I have not been up there for probably 5 years or so.

Harley-Davidson XLC 1200 Sportster Custom at 600 lbs. It also would not do well
on extended dirt riding and it's pretty heavy to pick up if (when) it would
drop on loose gravel.

The road was paved as far as I went. The link and map I just posted were from
a touring bicyclist web site so I guess they do it. Like Rich, I'm beyond the age
of pedaling...

Heheh. I can pedal, just not that far. I walk my dogs every day, but they are getting lazy and old, I considered getting a bicycle to do some light short bicycle riding.

I was wrong on my motorcycle, it's 578 lb.

The pavement runs out at some point, use to have a blue gate which I was told stays open but it was not what I wanted to ride my motorcycle on...
