My daughter has a friend from out of state who will be in Tucson, AZ for few days and her friend would like to meet with her 1/2 way to Rio Rancho, NM

We would appreciate any and all suggestions on a safe area for them to drive to and meet each other. All they want to do is visit at a very nice hotel and have lunch, etc.
So, safety and lack of isolation in the desert is the most important issue.
Not, things to do.

And a city, off of a main Hwy/Fwy with no isolated desert driving, please.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!
Tucson - Rio Rancho.

I would suggest flagstaff,az or las cruces, nm. Both are about 1/2 between tuscon and abq.

Based on low traffic volume on I-25 compared to I-40, I suggest Las Cruces rather than Flagstaff. I would guess that for a "very nice hotel", Meson de Mesilla might fit the bill: Meson de Mesilla :: Mesilla, New Mexico's Finest Boutique Hotel

Hotel Encanto is probably nice enough but there is road construction in the area, so Mesilla is probably far more preferable: Culturally Distinct Las Cruces Hotel: Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces, Cultural Hotel in Las Cruces NM

Other motels: Ramada | Las Cruces New Mexico Hotel | Las Cruces, NM 88005 | Near Historical Lawmen Museum (1 mile NW), New Mexico State University Art Gallery (1 mile E) & New Mexico State Univerisity Museum (1 mile E)

or the Hampton Inn: Hotel - Las Cruces, New Mexico - NM - Hampton Inn Hotels (http://www.hamptoninn.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=LRUVLHX - broken link) which is also near Mesilla

Thank you.
Las Cruces it is!
Mason de Mesilla sounds very lovely and they will have a nice stay and I won't have to worry about them.
Thanks again!!

Looking at google maps, I would choose Los Cruces as the mid way point. Total is 526 miles. Rio Rancho to Las Cruces is 263 miles

Map from Rio Rancho, NM to tucson AZ. Google Maps
