I am 40 years old and lived in Gretna for 30 years until Hurricane Katrina came and damaged the home that I was renting. Gretna is a good place to live although crime has risen since Katrina. It is mostly due to drug dealers from New Orleans trying to move out the drug dealers on the westbank(across the river from New Orleans). You can check the news reports in the area by going to www.wwltv.com. Housing will be a problem. Rental rates have risen sharply. Displaced residents are wanting to come home from other states, but there is not enough housing so the housing that is available is very expensive. There are a few good people who are not taking advantage of the situation who are renting at pre-Katrina rates. Good Luck!

I would suggest strongly that you locate north of New Orleans, say about 500 miles north.
