Hello all! I'm moving to Austin next week and will be staying in NO for two nights on my way. My friend and I will have all our worldly possessions loaded onto a rental truck, so I'm trying to make sure we'll be staying at a hotel in a fairly secure area. My boss used to live in that area and told me that anything in Metarie (sp?) should be okay. Thoughts/suggestions?

Metairie or Kenner are probably your best bets. Your biggest issue is easy access with the truck. What size truck and will you be towing a car (carrier or dolly)? Personally, I'd stay along I-10 in Metairie and take a cab for your local exploring.

I've done two cross-country moves in the past three years. Both times I planned my stops based on easy access from the interstates. Use google maps to plan your route and to scope out the parking situation. Some hotels have terrible parking for rental truck sized vehicles. But from Google Maps satellite view you can see your route, how to get in and out of the parking lot and proximity to other stuff.

Good luck on your move!
