We've always gone in April, as we'll do next year. But I want to go in October 2012 for the Crescent Blues Festival AND the Creole Festival in Lafayette.

One of my friends is going in December, and I've heard good reviews about the holiday season there. I would like to try that, too.

Default Wanna avoid crowds? Winter and summer are your choice :)

My personal favourite is August. Well, it's super-hot in the summer, but the deals are hot too. August is the month for foodies! New Orleans runs the COOLinary promo offering fancy lunch and dinner options in the best restaurants for more than a reasonable price. If you don't mind the crowds and love events like jazz festivals and community gatherings, then April is the right time!

The middle of May is great. Went a couple of years ago and had a lot of fun. If you get a chance take a sunset ride on the Creole Queen riverboat.

Went a few days before Christmas - it's a bit of an offseason for NOLA tourism. Temperatures are pleasant, and there's a lot of lights around the city.

I mean, Mardi Gras is a thing on to itself and that's late winter/early spring. Weather is more moderate. I think any time is good. I dont like super hot weather but when you are on vacation, who cares? Dont be afraid to visit in summer (only time I been) just drink water and dress in cool clothes if you do. Every city has something to offer in every month no matter the weather, imo. But your tolerance has a lot to do with it.

Mardi Gras appeals to some but not to others. If it's your first time visiting the city, you'll find it difficult to get around, many restaurants jam packed and hotels outrageously expensive if you can get one.

Better to spare yourself visiting during that time.
