Ok, so i just moved back to NOLA and im still getting on my feet. I am temporarily in the garden district but am moving out soon.

I work on bourbon st and I want to be within *safe* walking distance of work.

Right now it appears i have 2 options.Price is a non issue for me.

So Option 1: A 1 BR apartment in a high rise in the Central business district. This is on the west side of the french quarter... It would essentially be at the top of bourbon st. It would be a 5 minute walk to work. everything would be secure and there would be a door guy electronic keys etc etc. safe walk to work. There are also modern conveniences, like internet, stuff to plug a TV into, washer/dryers, 24 hour gym, etc etc. Basically nice and modern. The downside: Well, as soon as i set food out of the building id be looking at tourists. To go to the bars i wanted i would have to go to the other end of the french quarter/the marigny. Which isnt far and is a safe walk. And actually might be a good thing, because since work is closer mayyyyyybe i would go to work more. also, i could get to the west side of town easily and i like a lot of stuff there (garden district shops, snake and jakes is my favorite bar).

Option B: A more vintage place in a house at hte other end of the french quarter. The good: i dont have to walk far to be at the locals bars, the 24 hrs local bars, the marigny etc etc. A lot of my favorite bars are in this area (although my favorite bar ever is west side of town). Still a safe walk to work although work is farther away than fun. No 24 hr gym in the building. Probably need to get my own internet and cable. not sure about the laundry situation. BUT the house would have more character.

My situation is that one of the things that i LOVE about NOLA is the older feel. And i almost feel like i would be cheating if i lived in a modern high rise. And being in a cool part of town safely away from the tourists is a good thing IMO, assuming i could safely walk to the touristy areas. BUT having a modern place also sounds appealing with all the modern conveniences at my fingertips. Im just not sure how i feel with living basically in the most tourist ridden part of town. Im a local damnit!

so i need advice. i am being very indecisive! I know you guys cant make my decision for me, but any suggestions or input would be appreciated.
