My fiance and I are coming to NOLA for a convention. He is mostly going to be busy with that during the day, and I will use that time to explore the city a bit and do some serious writing. I was seeking a place walking distance from the hotel we are staying at (The Sheraton downtown) where I could hole up for a couple hours at a time, purchasing drinks and food items of course (gotta pay the rent!), and work on my laptop. I would prefer someplace that isn't a bar because i don't drink, but would consider it if it's a bar with food. Coffeeshops, bookstores, libraries, etc, with access to WiFi would be the best options. Any ideas would be wonderful. Thank you!

The area around Lafayette Square is convenient to your hotel, and at least two coffee shops come to mind. La Boulangerie would be my choice.

I hate to sound too obvious, but what about Cafe Du Monde? Although they might want a faster turn over for their tables depending on what time it is.

^ I wouldn't want the powdered sugar getting all over my laptop ... but maybe that's just me.

There's a nice little coffee shop called M's Cafe at Lafayette & Commerce Street. They have breakfast and lunch items and are open from 7am to 7pm, I believe. They have free wifi. That is the warehouse district area. There are art galleries, restaurants, the river, the Spanish Plaza and Piazza D'Italia... so much to see if you'd like to just take a walk around.
