Fellow Blue Jay here- class of '01. I went to St. Andrew's (in Algiers), which routinely produced a large percentage of the National Merit Semifinalists.

To the OP- if you're open to that sort of thing, there really is a very large, high quality Catholic school system here. Sometimes I wish I was Episcopal (my roommate at college, who was, described it as "like being Catholic without all the rules") so by all means, if that's the atmosphere you prefer for your child(ren) then go for it. But I think you'll soon find that Franklin(public) and Jesuit(Catholic) are really the tops in academics once you get to choosing high schools.

Don't forget Newman, which probably ties with Franklin for best high school in Louisiana. Franklin is officially the best public school and I'd list Newman as the best private school. Or, at least, the most prestigious.
