South Charleston was first I think. Why did NOLA rank second? I've read on this forum that NOLA does not tolerate Mexicans? So much for nice. I'm not Hispanic, but that comment from some poster was either a joke or serious.
Just trying to get to the gist of this...

Where did you see that NOLA doesn't tolerate hispanics? Did it refer to Hispanics in general or illegals? Personally, I've always found NOLA to be very friendly. But I'm not Hispanic either and would be interested in any facts regarding this.

Definitely think we are tolerant toward Hispanics..there are good public schools devoted entirely to the education of Hispanic newcomer's children here in the city. We've always had one of the largest Honduran communities in the world outside of Honduras. So..I don't quite know where these "facts" are coming from.

Why wouldn't it be friendly? Its a southern city known for food and good hospitality. Plus the different races that exist in the city coexist very well together.

There are incredibly large Honduran and Cuban populations living here. They are not treated poorly for the most part. I have many friends of this descent, and they haven't complained at all. If it was just a comment, then you can't take that as fact. However, out here in the suburbs, I have noticed some animosity towards the Mexican immigrant workers who have flooded the area since Katrina, but I haven't noticed it so much in the city proper. So, it's probably not a joke... People in the 'burbs aren't handling the influx well, thanks to landlords renting falling down buildings to droves of illegals and such, but places like Kenner and Metairie are a whole different animal from the city of New Orleans itself. Nobody should lump them into polls like this.

This is certainly the friendliest place I've ever been to, and that includes Charleston. How the heck do you measure friendliness anyway?!

I've been to Charleston many times and I do not consider it to be friendly. If anything I think Charleston is somewhat snooty.

New Orleans has always seemed friendly to me. When we lived there in the 80's until when we visit now, I have always found it to be easy going. I guess it is because locals realize how important the tourist dollar is to the local economy.

I've came across it in the threads about New Orleans. It was probably just a person starting rumors behind a keyboard. I asked this question to find facts myself as well. It referred to Mexicans, and yes nowadays a brown skinned person that might look Hispanic gets that stereotype that the person is probably illegal.
