Us outsiders may only know about Mardi Gras and The Jazz fest. What are some of the festivals that you locals love?

I have enjoyed Quarter fest. I think creole tomato fest was the other one but I'm not sure. And there was Reggae fest one year that was really fun.

The creole tomato, seafood/zydeco fests are usually (if not always) on the same weekend. I try to get to that every year. Long days and fresh squeezed lemonade oh how I miss thee.

So funny! I can't handle crowds and used to enjoy FQF immensely until the "secret" got out. Not to say I don't support tourism, it's just a bummer that the once smaller festivals are becoming monstrosities. Seafood Fest is still a good one, though.

At least I still have my fun little festivals out here in the suburbs like Back to the Beach and Laketown Fest. Alligator Festival out in Luling and Gretna Heritage Fest are other faves, but those ones (especially Gretna) are getting pretty big too. Maybe I just need some therapy and go have some fun

Couldn't agree with you more Pook. I mean I'm happy that the city is getting all the money, but man, FQF has changed. 10 years ago it was a little festival with locals in the know.. now it's this mammoth thing that everyone travels from elsewhere to go to. the only thing is that they didn't update the facilities and now you wait in line 90 minutes for food, you can't get a good spot to watch music, you push through people...at least it's still free though. Festival Internationale in Lafayette is what FQF was before it got too big
