I'm a native New Orleanian but been away for about 20 years. I've lived overseas for 15 of those 20 years. Now I want to get back to the US. The problem is I'm not sure where to go.

I have all my family in New Orleans. They, of course, say Come Home but I'm not sure about work. What does a person (54 years old) do in a city with high prices, high foreclosures, high crime and more out migration etc with only real estate (corporate real estate) as a background? I don't see much in the way of job opportunities except getting my RE license and working for a Broker.

What do you guys think? Comments pro or con are welcome.

We don't live in NOLA yet, but my advice is do some market research. See if there is a good market for your type of business. If you can't find/get a job, then it's not worth it.

I've also had family "issues" and prefer to not live in the same area as my family.

Good luck with it all!

I was watching a show today on the Science channel and it was all about New Orleans using new technologies to combat flooding. They were building an enormous surge gate and showing how they retrofit new Ninth ward homes against Cat 5 storm surge. Pretty interesting stuff that makes you feel good about the future of the city.

There is very little out migration at this point. And its one of the few places you can actually find a job without waiting a year for an interview.

I say come back, but you might want to consider living in River Ridge, Metairie, or across the Lake. Hope you find your spot.
