There are gangs in New Orleans. The thing is, they are of a different variety. In New Orleans, the gangs are more violent than even Los Angeles gangs. The Crips and Bloods tried to established themselves in New Orleans. New Orleans gangs just killed them all. In particular, the Gotti Boys did this to the Crips. I watched a documentary about New Orleans gangs. Some of the gang members bragged about seeing one "gangbanger" killing 15 people at one time vs. other gangs needed 15 or more people to do a drive-by shooting. New Orleans crime, in my opinion, is not like other places.

Gangs in the sense of gangs in other cities don't exist in New Orleans, at least in the Black community. Other cities even across Louisiana with "gang activity" have more organized and sizeable groups of criminals who share some type of bond/loyalty with one another. Crime in the Black community in New Orleans is centered around numerous small groups of people who usually lack a good amount loyalty amongst each other. As a result crime (which primarily consists murder in this city) usually stays between those involved in such crime. As a result although New Orleans is #1 when it comes to murder, it doesn't even rank in the top 20 when it comes to violent crime. The FBI actually ranks Baton Rouge as being more dangerous then New Orleans. There's also always been organized crime in the White community although it's not what it once was, it hasn't gone anywhere. There's also a sizeable organized crime element in the Vietnamese community that is rarely brought to light.

Another thing to note is that many of the documentaries on N.O. and it's crime problem always tend to be a little iffy/shakey.

Never said that crime didn't exist in the White community. I was just talking about the "gangs" in New Orleans. The mafia has had a presence in New Orleans. Crime in New Orleans is alot older than the Gotti Boys. New Orleans attracted alot of pirates in the old days. Prisoners from France were sent to New Orleans and continued their criminal behavior in New Orleans. Actually, I mentioned this in another thread about crime in New Orleans.

I never implied that you said otherwise and I'm well aware of the role crime has played in the history of my city.

It is pre-Katrina but if you want a documentary that tells the crime problem like it is, check out New Orleans Exposed. That thing is no joke. It's shot in the projects by people who live there. The budget/people making it keep it from being a "top notch" documentary in terms of quality, but they're telling it like it is, or was. What keeps it in touch with themes post-Katrina is that they were beginning to tear down the projects so the effects of that are documented in the film.

The documentary I watched was made after Katrina hit. It can be found on The History Channel on a show called Gangland.

The gangs in Houston, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, etc. all crapped in there pants after Katrina and the thugs here moved in and started killing them off like flies.

I have family on the NOPD and some areas they will not respond to after dark.

Just as many N.O. thugs went to Houston and had their behinds handed to them as well and I don't mean by Harris County authorities either. Went out there trying to run something and got ran back.

Part of my point.

And areas not being responded to after dark, well I have this to say: That will make life very scary for some people. There is alot of mistrust towards the police. That being said, some people might need the police if something goes down.
