On my road trip east, I'm stopping in NOLA for my first time--very excited for it.

My final destination is Fort Lauderdale. I can either roll into NOLA at around 9 pm, and leave for Pensacola, FL at around 7 pm the next day--get there at 11 PM, then take off for Fort Lauderdale in the AM

OR

Spend a second night in NOLA and then drive the 13 or 14 hours straight to Fort Lauderdale.

Any advice?

That's your own personal preference I guess...I drove from NO to Kentucky straight, by myself, and I wouldn't do it again. 14 hours is a long time! Pensacola is only going to take like 4 hours off your trip..Jacksonville might be more half-way.

I'd do New Orleans to Talahassee and then Talahassee to Ft. Lauderdale.

Yeah, but I want to spend as much time in NOLA as possible, while getting back to S. FL on my due date.

I've done New Orleans to Key Biscayne Bay several times which was about a 16 hour trip.

I've done New Orleans to Richmond VA also which was closer to 18 hours.

I try and stop a little bit every four hours or so to give my numb arss a rest.

What was funny was from Key Biscayne Bay to Orlando taking the turnpike cost me less than $30 in gas but almost $40 in tolls. If you take it make sure you have cash.

One good thing about the turnpike is they have mega truck stops on it that are clean with a good selection of food to eat.

Mapquest says the drive from New Orleans to Fort Lauderdale takes 13 hours, 14 minutes.

In my experience that is about right if the weather is good.

I drove from Baton Rouge to Ft. Lauderdale in one day. I say go and get it over with. Maybe you know this but avoid the Florida turnpike, I had to give my left leg for one of the tolls.

You pretty much have to use the turnpike if you want to do it in 1 shot. Itll cost you about 15 bucks though. With the price of gas and longer distance and time to not use the Turnpike. I cant see it reasonable to not use it.
