I'm 22, single, in school at Baton Rouge Community College and I'm moving away after I graduate. I'm currently with my family in Baton Rouge and we've been here since Katrina. I've fallen in love with Atlanta and I've lived there twice: October to December 2010 (my aunt passed here in BR) and January to February 2011 (my roommate sucked in ATL). I've been laying the groundwork to move back to ATL on my own by the beginning of 2013--I have two studio apartments in the city in mind, both at about $700/mo.

I had a convo with a friend and he mentioned New Orleans and someone moving there. The homesickness kicked in for the umpteenth time, and now a move back home has become an even more likely option to Atlanta. Either way, I intend to have full-time work lined up before I actually move, and I clearly know my way around both cities.

My question is: which would be a better move? Atlanta or New Orleans?

That depends on what you're looking to get out of this move. Realize what is it about Atlanta that you love and ask can you get the same out of New Orleans. Figure out which city would accomodate your lifestyle better.

NOLA:
1) Home
2) Food
3) Culture
4) The rest of my family
5) Proximity to 90% of my family (spanning between BR and NO)
6) I miss home
7) Entertainment

ATL:
1) Boys
2) Shopping
3) Food
4) Entertainment
5) Already have ideas for work and housing

As far as experience goes, it's safe to say that I have a just as equal experience with both cities. The crime in NOLA is another issue, though. How has it been going down there lately?

This is totally subjective and a personal choice, of course, but it seems that NOLA has just about everything you want.

Don't know if this will help, but imagine yourself flipping a coin. Assign one side to each city. If you already know how you want it to land, you've already made your choice, and should just stop worrying and go ahead with it.
