My husband has been transferred to New Orleans and I am having a very difficult time finding a school for our first grader. She has some special needs. She is mainstreamed and does very well, but does need special ed for reinforcement. She is currently in a Catholic school. However, I have toured all of the schools in the New Orleans area that accept special needs children and out of the two that I was interested in, neither have called me back. Both said they wanted to review the paperwork that I brought and speak with her current principal. But neither school ever called her current principal and they haven't called me back either. I am very concerned about finding a good school. I found Matas Elementary online and wanted to know what people on the forum could tell me about it. On paper it looks okay. But I would like to hear firsthand experiences, if possible. I am very worried about sending her to a school I haven't even visited. I'm also concerned about being happy there after coming from a Catholic school. Though we aren't Catholic, we have really enjoyed being in a close-knit, family oriented school.
Living on the Northshore is not feasible because of the location of my husband's work and the long hours he will be working.
I would greatly appreciate input and advice! Thank you so much.
