Its not very safe and there aren't many investors running to build new great housing or business districts over there like say Elmwood. I have a friend that owns several restaurants (part of a huge chain out here) and they have all their "business" locations in Metairie and travel from living in Slidell. They choose not to open in the east and slidell due to crime. Fact checking was done, I own a business and wanted to expand. I don't hate NOLA, merely stating my opinion of the chances.

Statistically, crime is not bad in new orleans east...when you hear about most of the murders and other crimes, its either downtown or uptown

NO is also built to the edges of the land with no more room to expand or build. Businesses can't find land to build on without going far out like Houma and Gonzales, so growth will be hard. I don't see it personally, although its a nice city for a certain way of life. The big easy.
Why don't you find out where the money went? Most of it should be public.
Houma and Gonzales??? I'm confused, those aren't even in the CSA!
New Orleans actually has plenty of land to build on, Orleans could hold double the population without any "Manhattanization" needed whatsoever.

Why would you expect disaster money to fix roads? That would cost 51 billion alone.

I say let New Orleans (and possibly the older parts of Metarie and other parts of Jefferson too) grow by growing denser.

Anything requiring 'sprawlburbs', send to Northshore. It's far enough from the city itself so as not to seriously impact on the latter's character (although if Metro NOLA gets "that" big you'd probably need to double the size of the causeway.

The causeway is outdated, it should've been redone

I went for a degree in civil engineering, never completed it, but I think just expanding to three lanes on both sides with an actual shoulder would significantly raise the capacity.

Didn't they redo the causeway after Katrina destroyed it?
