My company has expressed an opportunity for me to relocate for a position at the Convention Center in New Orleans. I am currently living in Southgate, Michigan. I am a single 24 year old black mother of a four year old. My budget is currently between $700 - $760.00 for a two bedroom / one bedroom with den. I want to maintain the apartment lifestyle I have here. I have researched apartments and have not come across anything I can afford . I want to live in a safe area that is a short commute (20 minutes) from the convention center. If it is not possible I won't relocate. However, I will greatly appreciate any advice you have on apartments.

Contact Latter and Blum. Real Estate Agents will help you find a rental here.

A lot of stuff doesn't get listed.

And there is no such thing as safe in New Orleans, tho I'm not saying dangerous, but not safe.

Thanks Vampgrrl. I don't have to live in New Orleans. Looking for some guidance on a nice area in (sounds like not possible) or around the New Orleans area. I don't mind a commute.

Smile Also possible move to NOLA

Hey there my family and I are looking to possibly re-locate to NOLA area as well from the SE Michigan area near Detroit Metro. I know of Southgate, pretty nice. From what I hear I think the Northshore is your best fit, I'm flying out to NOLA this Tuesday 28th to see how things are before going down for good, I'll let you know what I find out, I hear they have great EATS!!

Question Northshore

Means north of Lake Pontchartrain or North of New Orleans connected by the causeway bridge. We have the Pontchartrain Hotel in Detroit, they have the lake in NOLA. What company do you work for?

Scoopmittens - The North Shore is a nice area, but you may be overlooking a few things. The Causeway Bridge crossing the lake is 24 miles long and is heavily trafficked. If you live on the North Shore and work on the South Shore, you would need a good car and plenty of time to commute. In another post you mentioned looking for a diverse area. Mandeville is about 92% white.

Progression always – did you plan on your son attending public school? Generally, the public schools on the south shore, especially in Orleans Parish, aren’t that good (unless you can get him in someplace like Lusher Charter School.)

i want my son to attend public school...and thanks for the info on the miles and mandeville not being diverse. It is not set in stone that I have to move. It seems to be a lot of difficulty with living there.

If you are still considering it, the best thing is to just take a trip here and visit for a few days.
