Is anyone familiar with Golden Heights subdivision? There are a few homes for sale on Crowder Rd that appear to be very nice but fairly "inexpensive". I'm guessing these probably were flooded in Katrina? The homes are only 7 years old but have been completely redone. The listings say Chef Menteur/74 area. Thanks!

Those houses are inexpensive for a reason. Most of New Orleans East flooded after Katrina and the recovery has been very slow. Although a lot of people have returned, development and commerce are sparse to say the least. It is not an un-safe area, but there's not many amenities out there. You'll also have to deal with the "high rise" bridge on I-10 if you commute downtown. Gentilly would be a much better option IMHO.

I noticed another post from you inquiring about the Irish Channel. NOLA east is a very different neighborhood. What exactly are you looking for?

yeah, the last time I was there (on the way to Bay St. Louis), it was pretty desolate. And it will be again, next time a Katrina-sized storm hits.

Thats what I thought Thanks for the replies. We're kind of looking at a lot of different places right now, but we're leaning towards Carrollton general area or Marigny areas (I know, 2 different atmospheres!) We'll probably be renting to begin with until we decide where we want to settle. There are so many areas to consider. You guys are a great resource and helpful, thanks!! I'm sure I'll have more questions...
