I have used the search button looking for info, but was unable to find anything, so here goes:

Is Ben Franklin a school that one must apply to get into, or is it a public school for Orleans parish? Also, if you need to apply, how hard is it to get in to? I have two high school aged children, one is an exceptional student (4.0) the other is A's and B's, but very artistic. I wouldn't want them to go to different schools, so that's why I am asking.

I know the schools in the suburbs are highly ranked, would just prefer to live in the city (Uptown, Garden, etc). Also, the private schools at 20K per child are not in our range, financially. Thank you in advance for any help

It is public and you have to test to get in.

Yes, you have to take a test to get in, however, the admissions criteria are not unreasonable. It is probably one of the 10 best public schools in the nation (my mom and sister are both alumni).

And also, the Catholic schools aren't 20k a year... what schools are? Newman? McGehee? Look into Jesuit, Holy Cross, and Brother Martin for boys, or Dominican, Ursuline, Mt. Carmel, Cabrini for girls.

Thank you both so much for the info. I wasn't sure if they only accepted 4.0 geniuses, and wouldn't want my son to apply and feel badly for not being accepted with a 3.0 GPA. Thanks again!
