My husband is interviewing for a promotion that would transfer us to New Orleans. We have a 7 year old special needs child with learning disabilities. She is currently in a Catholic school with a special education program. She spends about 80% of the school day in the mainstream/regular classroom and around 20% of the day in the special ed classroom. I am trying to find Catholic or private schools in the New Orleans or Metairie areas with SPED programs. Due to the nature of my husband's job, living in the suburbs (Mandeville, Covington, or Slidell) is not an option. We will most likely live in the Uptown or Metairie area. I'm already aware that our options will be limited from reading other posts. We are coming from Mississippi, though, so we are used to having limited options.
I hope I've provided enough information. Thank you in advance for help!

I am probably late in replying to your e-mail, but the school that I would recommend for your child is St. George Episcopal School on Napoleon Ave. It's expensive, but has a wonderful resource program for children with learning difficulties. [mod] no ads allowed [/mod]

Default What did you find?

I am curious as to whether or not you found a school for your child? I just moved to Metairie from Mississippi as well and have a 10 year old autistic son. I have been home-schooling him hoping to get him into St. Michael Special School in New Orleans but am on hold with it waiting for the principal to return from leave.

I haven't found anything so far that seems to be a good fit for us. If you have found something, I would really appreciate you sharing info with me.

Thanks!
