Thanks for the points of view. I've already lived in Chicago, San Diego, The East Bay (Oakland/San Fran area), Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, and Iowa. All of those places have their ups and their downs. I am true and true a city girl and I've got to tell you if you have never been to Chi-town you should go. Its probably one of the best cities in the country! I'm ready for a change and i think I'm going to like New Orleans. It will be fun to discover the charms that only the locals know!

Does anyone know where I can find temporary housing until December 1st? I am moving to New Orleans and my housing plans fell through, (it's hard to arrange housing from cross-country). I'll be working for a not for profit, so the less expensive would be better. I'm not sure of the neighborhoods, so I would like to get a room or sublet than look for something permanent. I'll be using [public transportation until I get a bike. Any suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!

Look at the New Orleans Craigslist for sublets.

Where is your job located? There are definitely neighborhoods with decent public transportation and walkability, but without knowing where you're trying to commute, it's hard to recommend a specific area.
