I live on the Northshore and because of the tough economic times, its been awhile since I've been able to come across the lake to have some fun. Thankfully, I recently got my hands on some tickets for a couple of concerts at the House of Blues and I'm really excited.

However, I will be attending the shows alone and even when I did spent alot of time in New Orleans, I tended to avoid to French Quarter so I don't know the area at all. I know that most people will say that the FQ can be safe at night because there are so many people around, but I also know that a good street can turn into a bad street really quickly.

I'd been planning to park Uptown and take the streetcars. What's the hike like from the House of Blues to the stop for the St. Charles line? Is there a particular route I should take. I may come off as a bit paranoid but I'm a short 20-something woman so I've been trained to worry.

What would the cab fare run if I wanted to skip the streetcar and catch a ride back Uptown? Are there enough cabs to go around after a concert lets out?

Thanks for any help or advice.

The streetcar lets off at Carondelet and Canal. It's at most a 7-8 block walk to the HOB. Recent events notwithstanding, you should be fine. As for a cab, it would be at most $10 unless you park really far Uptown. Have fun!

I would take the streetcar from Uptown, last time I was in the city me and a lady took a cab from Canal to Prytania in the LGD. We were "hydrated" so I just gave him a $20 but it was probably around a $15 short cab ride.
Be careful.

If you're coming from the Northshore, it might be easier to take the Canal Streetcar. You can park around Canal and Carrollton which is just off I-10 and from there its only a 2 mile ride downtown. You can get off at Decatur and from there it's only a block and a half to the House of Blues. A cab ride back to your car would be around $12

The St. Charles streetcar is a little harder to get to and has a lot more tourist traffic which can slow things down. However, if you want to hang out Uptown before the concert, then it might be the way to go. You can park anywhere along St. Charles. The further Uptown you are, the safer it is, but the ride will take longer. It will let you off at Carondelet and Canal which is four and a half blocks from HOB.

If you want to drive there, your best bet is Canal Place. Its only a block away and has some of the cheapest parking in the Quarter.

I really don't remember the actual fare but I don't think I'd give him too big of a tip, no matter how much I drank.
