I am thinking about going to the Bayou Classic. Has anyone attended any of the activities associated with this event? Is it worth the trip? Is it typically warm around this time of the year in New Orleans? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

No don't waste your time. It's like going to watch community college football. Save your money and go to a Saints or LSU game. Watching high school football of some of the highly rated high school programs would be a better investment of your time.

We go to NOLA every year during Thanksgiving, which also coinsides with the Bayou Bowl. The temps are often unpredictable. Last year it was warm, but we have been there when it was really cold and the wind coming off the river is really cold. I agree with WhoDat, it really isn't much of a game. But if you are a fan, I'm sure it would be fun.

I've been going to the games for years and grew up as a Southern fan. The games aren't the best but certainly no worse than Tulane games. Halftime is when it goes down. I'll be in New Orleans that night but won't be attending the game. If you're about a hour away its worth it, more than that then not really. It's always been pretty chilly when we would go.
Have fun.

I don't know how any of you can compare it to Tulane or Community College...doesn't the Dome sell out for God's sake? Isn't it a giant party all weekend? Isn't it televised nationally on NBC. This game is a big deal, perhaps the largest sporting event for the African-American community, period. I don't know why you are downplaying it. It's a huge deal!

It doesn't sell out at all. A SU game can't draw 70k. Giant party? Not so much, just more people than a regular weekend and a whole bunch of Grambling fans getting lost. Can't wait to see what Champions Square is like though, there's always concerts. It is the largest game for AA's and the oldest "Classic" of all HBCU's.

The Dome looks pretty full whenever its played, Tulane games can't even fill half the lower level of the stands. I know when UL Lafayette played Southern some 30,000 fans came from BR to the game. I can recall many years not being able to drive down Canal at all, because of sooo many people there for the game. And yes, exactly my point, it may not be SEC football but there isn't a larger HB event around...

It's more people than Tulane I think, although I've never been to a Tulane game. No you can't drive down Canal but that's nothing new.

I went to one years ago. Usually that Friday after Thanksgiving, the French Quarter is packed with SU and Grambling people. There is also the battle of the bands, some dances, etc. A lot of folks go to N.O. simply to just hang out and not attend the games. I'm also sure if you Google, you will find more.
