Actually, I've always thought Las Ramblas in Barcelona is a great model for Canal Street to follow. With a monument down by the water and a big shopping square farther down at Placa Catalunya, New Orleans could do the same thing with the river and then Rampart and Canal.
Didn't somebody already buy the WTC or was that Plaza Tower?
It would be really nice but a stretch with the current configuration. Canal/Rampart would be a great intersection to have something like that but it'd be too similar to Lee Circle, Arc de Triomphe, while not being an unflattering copy, but more significant like that.

Canal Place seems pretty good for an occasional treat. We tend to avoid that area a bit, it just doesn't seem user-friendly. I think you and Annie_himself have thrown some cool ideas around. A lot more could be done with Canal St, aside from being a Palm-lined wind tunnel.

A good term is user-friendly to describe Canal Place. Not very good at it.

New toothpaste derived from cocoa extract heralds sweet potential for N.O.

Is chocolate good for your teeth? Probably not, but a certain extract of cocoa might be.
A team of university researchers in Louisiana made the discovery and used their findings to develop a new toothpaste that hits retail shelves around the country this week.
The toothpaste -- called Theodent -- contains no fluoride and relies instead on a proprietary blend of cocoa extract and other minerals to strengthen and harden tooth enamel. Developers say the toothpaste offers an alternative to consumers who worry about consuming fluoride, which has been associated with a number of health conditions, including thyroid disorders and bone disease.

Trump is officially dead, has been for about a year now. It may come back up when the economy gets significantly better and lenders open up. The WTC has been sold, I don't think plans have been released. A condotel is likely as the downtown market is thriving.

They actually pushed for a height increase for Tracage.
Construction is fully underway at the Convention Center and eventually the Riverwalk will be temporarily shutting down for its rennovation/redevelopment.
