I am moving into New Orleans or Old Metairie at the end of the month and have begun to look at apartments in my price range. A couple I am interested in are between Gentilly and St Bernard lakeside of Broad. What is the crime rates like in this area?

It's a so so area. Its better on the other side of Gentilly.

I'm not sure why this area and Old Metairie would even be in the same discussion. Old Metairie is completely different.

If you want a similarly urban neighborhood, there are many more options.

If you're trying to decide between New Orleans (Gentilly and St. Bernard area) and Old Metairie, I would choose Old Metairie hands down. Although no area of town is crime free, OM is a much safer area, overall. Hope this helps.
