I am moving to NO for school and would like to keep my cost of living down since I will be living off loans. I found a cool place in the 7th ward by st claude. All I hear about 7th ward is bad things but the house is close to frenchmen st which is safe? the address is 1924 pauger st.. Would like someones opinion; or is all of the 7th ward unsafe?

Where are you going to school? That neighborhood is a long way from Tulane, but getting to UNO would be a breeze.

It's not the absolute worst area, it's actually improved over the past few years. However, the nicer safer places are going to be between St. Claude and the River.

I don't mind if it is not the nicest area. I don't really have anything of value to be stolen. I just want to make sure it's not an area where there are going to be shootings/ I have to worry when walking from my car to the house.

A quick check of the murder map will let you know that the 7th ward is bad news.

That area is pretty terrible. I lived on that exact block for a month. I'm the LAST person to freak out over an area, but that specific block (and especially one block up) has a lot of blatant drug dealing going on and all kinds of unscrupulous characters around.

Agree. There's a good amount of crime in that area. Your better bet would be the other side of St. Claude, in the Marigny.

Mid-City or Bywater would be a safer bet if you're looking for cheap rent, but they're both a little further away from the hospital. Mid-City being the closer of the two.

Huh? The hospital is on the edge of Mid-City.

I meant there are some areas of Mid-City that are further away from the hospital than that block of Pauger that was mentioned. It's a big neighborhood and everybody has different boundaries for it.

It's definitely closer than Bywater.
