I have some flexibility surrounding my relocation date, so I'm wondering... which month Feb-June would be ideal to find
a) Best apartment prices
b) Most availability

In particular, I'm wondering if Carnival season impacts rent prices and property management availability (is it "business as usual" during this season or do people put things on hold for the month? i.e. will I be able to get a hold of anyone and negotiate signing of the lease easily or should I just hold tight until the city quiets down a bit... if it ever does )

I'm also wondering what the natural ebb and flow of housing availability is as it pertains to students (I am not one). When do they move out and free up the best apartments?

Thanks!

I am wondering this also. I was planning to move in August, since I am going to be a student at UNO, but should I move earlier? Do students occupy a lot of available apartments in Aug? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I just moved here and had no luck finding anything in February - everything was on hold due to Mardi Gras rentals. We had to live in a hotel all through Feb, but we are finally moving into our new Uptown apartment on March 1st and I can't wait! For anyone thinking of moving here, I would try to start a lease by December or after March.
