Asked this in the main forum before I saw this one specific for NO.

Gonna be working/playing in New Orleans for approx. 2 months beginning in April.
I'd like to stay somewhere that is relatively safe to walk around in the evenings, but close enough to walk to a 'lively' area with Restaurants or whatever.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I know nothing about the neighborhoods in New Orleans so if someone doesnt mind educating me on them, that would be really kind.

thanks a million in advance

Where exactly will you be working, or what area of NO? downtown? Do you have a car or transportation? I see you make reference to walking.

Hello,

I will be working in several places around NO but mostly downtown.

We will have a vehicle.

Our schedule is very flexible so I thought we should set up camp somewhere fun and safe, as we can do our drive before or after heavy traffic times during the working days.

Walking would be my preference on weekends. Especially after I stuff my face with good food.

thanks!

Well uptown NO is pretty cool, and relatively safe. This is like St Charles ave, Carrolton ave to the river. I'm guessing that your going to be staying in a hotel during that time, if your company is paying or you get a per diem/subsidy, you could stay in the French Quarter. Plenty to see there, walk everywhere, good food. You want to stay either in the downtown area, uptown, or the quarter. Skip NO east or the west bank of NO. Also there is Metairie and Kenner-Jefferson parish, which is a suburb of NO, about 4-8 miles from downtown NO, just to the west. One thing about staying in NO is availability of public transportation, busses and streetcars. You'll want to ride a streetcar while your here just for the fun of it. You can pull up New Orleans in mapquest.com and see the areas I'm speaking of, may help you visibly.
