Hey Gang!

I was recently offered a job in New Orleans and my husband and I would very much like to relocate there. The problem is, they are only offering a starting salary of 27k!!! Is this survivable if my husband doesn't find a job right away?!

Any info ya'll have is GREATLY appreciated!

Yes. Right now I'm making little...but if you can find a rental for $700 and under, watch your electricity usage and carry liability insurance you can do that.

Thanks for the feedback! Are there any areas you'd recommend looking for apartments?

You can survive, but you'll likely be living in a bad area. Even then, you're still likely to have to use credit cards to survive. $700 apartments in New Orleans are usually rough.

I wouldn't say that. I pay $700..my place is a bit of a dump but its in a decent area.

And as to where...that's hard to say. Bad areas and good areas can be mixed together. You need to come down and look first.

no way. I love the city but you do not want to move to New Orleans on that income even short term. The murder rate is 10X the national average and you will be living in those areas.

You can afford a safe place on your income. Ignore the naysayers.

Well thanks for all your feedback folks. I just got offered a different position in a different city so it looks like I won't be coming to NOLA after all!
