We have received our child test result yesterday. He score 28 out of 30. Perfect score at math readiness and only 75% for reading readiness. So now we have to wait for the lottery.

They don't actually have the kids read for that test, just comprehension of what they've been read in a story. That score is good enough to make it in the lottery. Now you just have to keep your fingers crossed your number gets pulled.

The whole New Orleans school system is a mess. The children of Tulane Employees get first dibs at the spots for Lusher. Then, kids that live in a very distinct district, and then everyone else. The only other way to get into a good school is to have a 70124 zip code (Lakeview) and then the kids can get into Hynes. Otherwise, if you aren't politically connected, or have friends in high places, your kids wind up at the bottom of the barrel of schools. Then, there is no reliable school bus service and routes because kids from all over the city go to school all over the city. It's just a horrible confusing mess to get a kid stuck in. If you want good public schools, look to St. Tammany, St. Bernard, or St. Charles if you can deal with the commute. If you must live in new Orleans, private school is the only way to go.
