Hi, I'm a new resident and have recently acquired BCBS HMO health insurance. I'm looking for a general practitioner and need a recommendation. I'm really looking for someone who has good bedside manners and will take their time listening to me instead of herding me through like cattle. Also, someone who keeps up with the latest trends and information in research and one who isn't quick to prescribe medicine--rather one who is smart about lifestyle and nutrition choices. Any additional advice on the health system here would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! (P.S. I've seen another post on this, but there was little response)

I go to William Woessner downtown on Camp St. He's very old-fashioned but very good.

Thanks for the recommendation. What do you mean by "old-fashioned?" Like, in a good way or bad way? Thanks.

Not sure if he is still in practice but I just loved my internist, Dr. Jay Shames.

Sherisse Olivier is mine...she's at Ochsner Lakeview. Sharp doctor who knows her stuff, compassionate, and sweet as can be. But, most important to me..she's good. I have very high confidence in her.
