I am moving to New Orleans from Brooklyn NY at the beginning of April until the end of May (at least). While finding a subletter for my place here is really easy, i'm finding the search quite difficult on the N.O. end of things. I'm 23/f, looking to live near if not in the bywater/marigny areas..i am looking for a furnished room that is under $500 (by furnished i mean with a bed).
I'm not sure what the sublet market is like down there--perhaps the craigslist listings will pick up sometime next week. as of now, it seems pretty dead. are there other resources for short term rentals that i should check out? i've done quite a bit of googling, but craigslist seems to be the most reliable source...eh, i don't know. or--if anyone knows of an april-may sublet, lemme know! i'm really nice! and friendly!

Hey there-- I am moving with a job and starting at the beginning of April. I am in the same boat as you-- looking for short term at first while I figure out where I really want to live long term. The I managed to secure a place that was advertised on Craiglist-- my new lease ends in July. It wasnt advertised as a short term but when I asked about the idea, the owner was open to it.

Right now CL *is* dead-- people are holding on to their places to rent them out for Jazzfest. It will definitely pick up in June. Your price range isn't impossible, but its difficult. My impression is that the majority of places for rent are cottages and shotguns and rooms aren't as plentiful as they are in other places. There is a lot of space to be had and people seem to like to take advantage of that. This was odd to me coming from DC-- I live in a studio now, and started looking for something similar in NOLa. Not a lot of choice.
