My daughter will be working at the court House on Canal St. She will be looking for an apartment. Are there places along the trolley line that are safe?

If you must be 30 minutes from work then that would limit you to Metairie or the Westbank. I would definitely choose Metairie over Kenner. Both Metairie and Kenner are older, denser suburbs vs the kind of suburbia with new subdivisions, gated communities, etc. The Algiers Ferry is a convenient public transit link too. The Westbank is mostly working class suburbs and heavily industrial which I don't mind but if you want the typical suburban experience I'd go with the Northshore, particularly Covington, Mandeville and Slidell though you commute would be longer than 30 minutes but many people make this commute every day.

LaPlace is also seeing some modern suburban developments popping up.
