Hello all. I'm going on an extended business trip to New Orleans that will likely last through the end of the summer. This will be my first visit to New Orleans and I am not yet familiar with local business culture. What is typical office business attire in New Orleans? I will be there during the hottest summer months, so not sure if that influences how local businessmen dress. Is seersucker still appropriate - and will it look ridiculous for a Northeasterner to wear seersucker? Thank you for your advice.

I'm no businessman, and it's been ten years since hubby worked with lawyers, but when surveyed he said that it was usually slacks, dress shirt, and tie. When they went to court the jackets/suits would come out. It's really too hot to be going about with a jacket, but I would recommend one because some of those fancy schmancy restaurants require one and you'd probably want to have one on hand. You don't see a lot of seersucker suits, but they are becoming more popular. It's a traditional thing and they are quite pricey so they scream, "well dressed man," to me anyways. I'm sure there are others here who work in the CBD who can weigh in with a better than ten years ago opinion.

For the classic New Orleans summer style, consider a white linen suit from Perlis on Magazine (with white shirt, black shoes and belt, and conservative tie).

Seersucker is perfectly appropriate.

For summer anything light weight. Linen, seersucker are perfect as they absorb perspiration and dry easily and of course anything 100% cotton. My last three ventures with real estate, bankers, and lawyers in New Orleans most of the men were wearing light weight kakhi slacks or seersucker and golf shirts or cotton button downs. A light weight jacker is a must have.
