Good Morning New Orleans!

I have decided to make the move and leave my hometown for something a bit different. I have been down to New Orleans a number of times. Done the tourist stuff, music clubs, etc. So I sort of know the city a bit. I need some advice on certain things about moving to NOLA. Firstly Im wondering is it as easy to get a job in restaurants/bars/small hotels? (Non chains, touristy, bourbon st) And Im wondering it seems it cheaper to find a small room in The Marigny/Bywater rather than Lower Garden/Uptown/Carrolton? Are there alot of singles and younger couples living in Midcity or is it just families? And one last stupid question is crime in Treme neighborhood that bad?

Depending on where you look Uptown or in the Marigny, those can be expensive places. There are a lot of people my age in Mid-City (I'm 28) but I wouldn't recommend it to a 22-year-old just moving down here. There are plenty of restaurant jobs to be had. I'd be very careful about living in Treme.

If by Treme you mean the area around Governor Nicholls Street and Delille Street (St. Augustine Church), then that area is good. But the other parts like closer to Claiborne/on the other side of Claiborne or on the other side of Esplanade are bad.

Bywater and LGD should be pretty close in price. The Marigny will be a little more expensive especially between Esplanade and Elysian Fields.

I'm in Mid-City and am close to 30. Mid-City has a lot of 21-30 yr olds, but some of these younger people will have kids. Bywater will also have a lot of 21-30 yr olds, but very few will have kids. Uptown and Carrollton close to Tulane will have a large student population.

If you're single, childless, and will be working in a bar/restaurant in or near the Quarter, then I would really lean towards the Marigny/Bywater area. You'll be around a lot more of your peers and be ground zero for nightlife. That's not to say that LGD and Mid-City don't have nightlife, it's just a lot more concentrated in the Marigny/Bywater. You'll be close to Frenchmen St and also the clubs along St. Claude.

So it seems like Bywater,Treme(Over by St.Augestine, Thanks Jimbo) and LGD are the best options. I appreciate it guys. I take it craigslist is better after Jazzfest is over to check out?

Yea I imagine much of the ads will be for Jazz Fest. Some ads I've seen are for the SB.
