I've been to both the Las Vegas strip and the New Orleans French Quarter. It seemed to me the French Quarter had a lot more drinking, partying and "activities" going on, if you know what I mean.

So, do you think New Orleans is sin city?

I like the Cresent City better or even The City That Care Forgot is somewhat better. That horrible movie just ruins the nickname, "The Big Easy".

I would say that New Orleans is the original Sin City (gambling, Storyville/Prostitution, Drinking was very popular way before Las Vegas even existed) and the tourist today do heavily focus on the partying and drinking aspect when they visit New Orleans(sadly). While in Las Vegas a big draw is the Casinos(which New Orleans has) and the entertainment shows but also partying and drinkings is big there too. But of course New Orleans would never want to be compared to Las Vegas and New Orleans offers a lot more than your typical Las Vegas type activities.

It's true that it was the nations first "sin city" however the nickname didn't stick. Las Vegas has the glitz and glamor that New Orleans lacks.

I don't think anyone calls it that, but you are right in that even though it is predominately catholic, who sins better and with more gusto
than Catholics? They just go and confess it all and get ready to do it again. The Baptists lie about it, the Presbyterians, well who knows....
In LA no one really cares about what is all available because it is one of the last true politically incorrect places. WE CAN DEAL WITH YOU
STAYING OUT til all hours, drinking and lying with loose women because we have a life and a job to go to. We do not feel like it is our job,
nor do we have TIME to tell you what to do, as long as you don't kill us with your car on your way home. Life is a personal choice, or a series
of such choices. You can find whatever you want in NO, but in the end, you still have to go home, whether you are local or out of towner.
So what is a sin, really? What you do with your life is your own business. Wish more people in the USA thought like that.

No, that name is perfect for Vegas. Vegas is godless, superficial. People in Vegas are trying to escape and become someone they are not for a few nights. There is a tinge of sadness to the 'good times' that go on out there. The whole scene is really empty. Sin City fits perfectly.

Now, there may be a few clubs on Bourbon where you can find the same thing, but for the most part New Orleans is the exact opposite of Las Vegas when it comes to how we have fun. Religion is in the blood of the city and you can see its influence in our social traditions. The city has soul, spirit. There is a decency that you find among the people even at our biggest events. And most New Orleanians don't party with the objective of completely losing control and doing something destructive or self-destructive. There is actually more moderation than you would think because people grow up with socializing/drinking all around them from a young age.

Yes New Orleans with it's obcession and promoting of drunkenness is filled with sin. However Vegas stands alone as being the true "sin-city". People flock to Vegas to cheat and have no problem in doing so. I'm not saying some don't do the same that visit New Orleans, but in Vegas it's almost encouraged. There is no comparison between the two in terms on why Vegas is sin city.

The difference between N.O. & Vegas is that Vegas is pretty much all party, drinking and "activities". N.O. actually has a culture behind it and other things to do. All anyone really comes here anymore for is drinking but there actually is more stuff to do besides that, in Vegas there's pretty much not.
