I'm a pet stylist/groomer from California and the persistent idea to relocate to New Orleans has been growing inside of me for a long while now. I've heard that NOLA is a very pet friendly city, so I'm wondering if what I've heard is actually true.

1) ARE furry companions popular in NO?

2) If so, what breeds are you locals most fond of?

I'd say here in my shop in California, yorkies, ****zus, and chihuahuas are the most popular. I'm really curious to know if its similar or different in the Big Easy!

I myself have a black and white female ****zu named Olive and a silver and tan female yorkie named Stevie. They are both so sweet and adorkable (yes you read that right, lol.) So tell me New Orleanians, what kind of critters do you have?

hahaha one of the breeds I mentioned was edited. Just imagine the "S" word in front of "zu" and you'll know what breed I meant

All of this editing is so precious isn't it? It's not like we still can't figure out what word it is~!

No offense taken. I always get confused on that spelling! It's a bad habit because at work we abbreviate on the sheets when we check dogs in. Doh! I'll gladly edit my bad habit and now it won't be censored. Thanks! Great Danes are pretty awesome, though in my line of work tend to give ME the bath! Congrats on your soon to be move! Let me know about the pet culture there

I have a rat terrier, my parents have two greyhounds. From going to the dog park at City Park it doesn't seem that any one (or three) breeds is most popular. Lots of pit bulls though.

How are pits treated in NO? Houston does not favor them at all.

It sounds like short-haired dogs are the "in" thing there, then. (So far.) That makes a lot of sense. I imagine because of the humidity that long-haired dogs would suffer during the summer months unless they were trimmed short... I do like to keep my long-haired dogs short with a summercut and just keep their face full with a ponytail/bow on top so I imagine my long-hair dogs would be ok.

Lots of greyhounds! Nice! We don't get too many of those in my neck of the woods. Pit bulls are pretty common around here too, but they generally only come in for nail trims. There seems to be a stigma that they shouldn't come to the grooming salon because of temperament, but I find that pit bulls can be some of the most loving, cuddly dogs around if raised right.
