I am gonna say it is more hype that fact, but I could definitely be wrong. I lived there my whole young life, and never heard of it.
That is not saying TOO MUCH, I haven't lived there in decades. But I think the food channels all try to discover the next great
unknown place and talk it up. I will say it's in a great neighborhood for food. If that was all it took, hell yeah, I'd go. I KNOW
the chicken must be good, cause it LOOKS GREAT. But IF I HAD TO GO THERE, I would not leave before I checked out Dooky Chase
around the corner. NOW THAT is famous for it's food. But personally, no, I can't vouch for Willa Mae's And even Dooky Chase might
be something else now in this era of famous food no one knows about. I see where people now are finding it more fame than food...
In that general area, try Mandina's instead, it's always been one of my favorites, anyway.

Its a soul food place only open for lunch. They are known for their fried chicken and its pretty damn good. Its one of the best in the city. I've been there a few times, and I think its worth a stop.

I had it recently, and I think it's a bit overhyped. It was much better after I put the remaining piece of chicken in the fridge and had it later that evening, cold. I like the fried chicken at Jacques-i-mos better.
