If you have one night to dine out at a not-outrageously-priced restaurant, where would you go? My family will be in town for one night and I want to show them a good New Orleans experience. I was thinking Jacques-Imo's, Dante's Kitchen, or Cochon. Any thoughts? Thanks much.

Unless you want to stay out of the Quarter, my vote for cheap and good is always Coop's on Decatur. AMMMAAAZZINNGG rabbit jambalya for about ten bucks. Its a hole in the wall place that often has a line, but great people watching if you have to wait. Stroll on down to Frenchmen St after and grab a drink and some live music at the Spotted Cat.

Dante's is excellent and my personal favorite of late, I highly recommend.

Cochon is excellent as well.

Jacques-Imo's is also very good. The food will be a bit "heavier" as in lots of butter and heavy sauces and that can be a turn off for some people. I, however, enjoy the hell out of it. There are no reservations unless you have 5 or more, so you might have to wait.

All 3 are pretty reasonable for a good dinner.

check out what the food expert Tom Fitzmorris thinks. Go to www.nomenu.com

He also has a talk show everyday on food on 105.3 from 3-6PM. Give him a call and he'll be glad to give you his input.

Let me know what he says.

thanks everyone. we ended up at dante's kitchen and it was absolutely amazing. molasses bread with honey butter, pork belly, duck fat roasted new potatoes, roasted duck breast, chicken roasted "under a brick" (with a potato and bacon hash cake, topped with a fried farm egg), and redfish on the half shell topped with crabmeat. definitely a new favorite, in addition to jacques-imo's (which i had forgotten was closed on mondays), and my fam was thoroughly impressed.
