My partner and I are planning to relocate to New Orleans and are looking for an August 1st rental. We have booked a room in a hostel for the last week of June. We are then planning on cruising every street in Bywater, Marigny and the Quarter to look for "For Rent" signs, hoping that we find a place. Is 5 weeks out too early or fine to search?

Unfortunately you are hitting right at the prime student turnover time when rentals get snapped up very quickly. I would say if you find something you love that is in your budget, snap it up and prepare to pay for at least part of July too. Most landlords get about 30 days notice, except in the event of an emergency, so a month is optimal.

The cheapest studio I have seen in the Quarter lately was $865. Marigny and the "good" part of Bywater will run about the same.

Thank you, confusedasusual.

Does anyone else have any insight into looking for apartments in NOLA five weeks out from the would-be start of the lease?
