Hello, I'm originally from Louisiana but have been living in Oregon for the last four years. I'd really like to move back to New Orleans to be closer to my family but I'm concerned about the job market there. I have 3 years in records/reception at a medium sized firm and 2 years experience as a legal assistant at a patent/ip firm. How difficult would it be for me to find a fulltime job as a legal assistant with benefits? What is the legal assistant market like in New Orleans? I really want to move back but I have a stable job here and it's difficult to give up to start all over again. But I really miss my family! Help!

You probably already know this, but there is a significant legal industry here. I'd imagine finding a job would be fairly easy. As far as patent/ip there may not be that much but the tech industry is growing here so maybe so. But there are a slew of big law firms either headquartered or with offices here- Adams and Reese, Phelps Dunbar, etc...

Default Benefits?

Hi Neworleansisprettygood,
Thank you for responding! That is very helpful info. Do you know if it's pretty typical to receive health benefits and 401K at most firms? That is a big concern for me as well.
Thanks!
Chris

My parents run a collection law firm and they offer a 401 k and health insurance, so I imagine it is fairly standard practice among all firms.

Get on Linkedin if you haven't already done so. There are employment agencies that fill those roles.
