My fiance and I are getting ready to move to NOLA in the fall.

I was wondering if anyone can give me some info on the punk and hardcore music scene in the city? Are there a lot of bands/venues or a decent amount? I am looking to start a band and get involved in the scene in NOLA, but I have done a little research and can't seem to find that many punk or hardcore bands in the area. Are there any venues that cater to this type of music?

Any info would really be appreciated! Regardless, I love N'awlins.

I don't think punk and hardcore are the most popular form of rock in New Orleans, but I don't listen to rock. New Orleans is a music city first, however, and genre second. So I would have to say your success there would be based solely on your talent and skill and not so much the ability to be seen by a savy industry guy. (Like in NYC or LA)
On that note, neighboring Baton Rouge seems to have a pretty good rock scene, probably due to the college students though.

Most of the hardcore/punk scene would be concentrated in the Bywater at places like the Hi-Ho and Saturn Bar. Pretty sure you mean hardcore punk, but if you are into metal then "sludgecore" got its start in New Orleans- Eyehategod, Crowbar, Soilent Green, etc.
