Hi All,

My husband, me and our two kids will be staying at the Drury this weekend and I was wondering about where to park. They don't have self park due to construction but offer valet which is all good and fine once we're in the hotel. We'd like to take advantage of the time we have before check-in. How's public parking in that area and near Bourbon Street?

Since I have your attention, also, what would be a good place to do a swamp tour? Based on internet research I was thinking about Torres Cajun Swamp Tours but don't want to have to drive too far....

Items I have on our itinerary are: Jackson Square, Destrehan Plantation, Audubon Zoo, Pandora's Snowballs, The Superdome, Johnny's Po'Boys, Michauls Live Cajun Music Restaurant, 9th Ward, French Quarter walking tour, Ghost tour, Garden District tour, and Francis Sylvester Backstreet Cultural Museum.

We only have two days but I plan to fit in as much as possible. I was thinking of doing the museum and Garden District tour before check-in Friday and the French Quarter walking tour Saturday morning.

Please let me know what you think?? Thanks.

Parking meters are used on Saturdays just so you know. Just park your car in a hotel lot and leave it there. You should not drive around the CBD or French Quarter when your staying there. It is a very walkable area and it is not necessary or feasible to drive. You COULD drive to the Garden District if you really wanted to.

Public parking will work out fine for you. Like the previous poster said, you can walk everywhere in CBD and the Quarter. In my opinion, it's well worth the money to park in a secure well lit parking area. I've actually found many $20 a day spots where you slide your credit card through the machine.

You will be hard-pressed to do all that in just a weekend (the swamp tour itself will take up a few hours, as well as the zoo), so use your car when you can to save time. To see the Garden District we've done both ~ use the streetcar to get off and walk around the area, as well as use a car. You definitely cover a lot more ground with a car, plus the zoo is nearby.

Oh definitely visit the Backstreet Cultural Museum! This is one of the things I always try to get people to see.

Psssst> You sure you want to squeeze in a plantation drive on this trip? They're great. But it's a longer drive than you may realize. You should wait until Sunday to see what you've accomplished so far and take it from there. It could boil down to a choice between that or a swamp tour (which I've not done yet but would love to).

When parking on the street, do not leave ANYTHING showing in the car. Too many casual thieves even in what looks like a good area.
