Wifey and I will be vising Nawlins during labor day weekend. Found out there's a little event called Southern Decadence that weekend. While I have nothing against gay people, I want to avoid the Southern Decadence crowd as much as possible. We will be staying at Renaissance Pere Marquette Hotel. Is this sufficiently far enough from the gay crowd? I don't know what to expect. Are we going to be sleeping in a room next to a gay orgy party?

I would stay on the part of Bourbon closer to Esplanade. You'll be safe there.

j/k.

There's lots to do in New Orleans, and you can avoid some of the debauchery of Decadence by going to the zoo, taking a streetcar ride along St. Charles, etc....

And just for the record, I like that we have Decadence here. I have a gay friend who wears a shirt all the time that says "Decadence Fire", and it's modeled after the uniform (and approved by) for the NOFD. We don't call ourselves the "city that care forgot" for nothing.

The Pere Marquette is in the CBD. I've never really been down to the quarter for Decadence, so I don't know how much of an area it takes up.
