Forgive my ignorance...though I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, I'm not from New Orleans. I thought Carrolton was part of Uptown? I don't guess it has much bearing on any of this, but that came to my mind when I read your post.

Carolton can be considered part of uptown, but alot of people consider it it's own seperate neighborhood. It used to be it's own town, actually, before It got incorporated into New Orleans. You have to remember that there are lots of varying definitions of uptown.

Wow...thanks for the info. I didn't know it used to be its own town at one time.

That's right, we have a thread going on New Orleans current 2009 ranking as the nation's "Murder Capital". This thread was started using old rankings.

The buiulding that is now Ben Franklin school was the original - old age is getting me! - courthouse or town hall for the town of Carrollton. I think it was the courthouse.

Wrong, New Orleans was murder capital 06, 07, 08 & 09. As far as the Helen Hill murder, the husband's actions were very much suspect. What husband hides in the shower holding their infant child while his wife is struggling with an intruder.

Only 2 murders on that map are in Mid-City. That area between Broad St. and the Quarter is technically not Mid-City, even though some people try to include it. The whole dynamic changes on the other side of Broad St.

I just don't want someone to read this and think there's a high concentration of crime in Mid-City, because that is not the case. With the exception of a few blocks between Tulane Ave. and Banks St., its really a nice area.

People have varying definitions of neighborhoods in New Orleans. It's rare to find one whose boundaries everyone agrees upon. Sorry if you were offended. I realize there are plenty of nice areas in that part of town, just like there are plenty of nice areas in Uptown and there are also areas that aren't so nice.
