How stupid would it be to do this? I'd like to start riding my bike to Tulane from the LGD and it seems it would be significantly faster to ride north directly through Central City before heading west. I wouldn't want to do it at night but is it still bad during the day?

On a related note, I've been wanting to check out second lines but they all seem to go through the same area. If it's okay to bike through there during the day, is it also okay to wander in on foot by my lonesome to check out the parades?

I imagine it's fine as people tend to overhype bad areas but I don't wanna be stupid and put myself into a bad situation without checking first.

You would be fine biking through Central City. If you feel worried then just stay on the main roads. I would think you would be fine going to the second lines too especially since it is a larger event and a lot of people are around. Just dont wander around too much.

It can get pretty sketchy between Louisiana and Jackson back towards Claiborne. A better idea might be to right through the Garden Dist. Up past Louisiana to General Taylor and then cut back to Freret( or similar street) to get to Tulane.

New Orleans doesn't have a rep for being a safe city, and stats prove it. Thanks to our DA and Fed prosecutor, we're trying to change that image. Central City (if you read the newspapers) has the highest crime rate of all neighborhoods. Being on a bike you're vulnerable. I would avoid the area entirely.
